Annette Meyer also works as an artist, primarily with couture made from untraditional materials. Her work has been on show at renowned international museums and galleries.
As a designer Annette Meyer is working with a wide range of activities in the field of fashion, exhibition and product design.
With her fashion/art installations she established the multidisciplinary work practice that has continued in her present work. A close collaboration between artists and craftsmen from various disciplines is essential to the realization of her installations, exhibition design and product design.
She engages in a playful relationship with the human body and it’s physical surroundings from which is extracted simple conceptual devices and frameworks for expressing her artistic vision. With unfamiliar materials, sounds, settings and spatial compositions, she cultivates a personal idiom of new forms both complex and beautiful.
Her choices are few and distinctive; an intuitive arrangement and intertwining of juxtapositions and contrasts strikes a chord that ultimately carries her sensual vision of the entire installations and spacial designs. A distinct aesthetic feel runs through the work of Annette Meyer.
Curriculum Vitae
Annette Meyer (1966) studied Fashion at the Art Academy in Utrecht in Holland and Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, Belgium. She lives and works in Denmark.
For several years she designed costumes for the Danish performance theatre Hotel Pro Forma, designing costumes for eight larger performances, among them ‘Enigma of the late afternoon at Carlsberg Glyptoteket, OPERAtion Orfeo shown at The Opera House in Sidney and at BAM in New York as well the performance Monkey Business Class, a collaboration with the Japanese performance group Dumb Type and the Architect duo Diller and Scofidio.
With her fashion/art installations she had her solo debut at Design Museum Denmark in Copenhagen in 1996, where her unique garments crafted from disposable paper wrapping materials were displayed for the first time.
The following years Annette Meyer became Head of the Fashion Department at Designskolen Kolding in Denmark and had her first international solo exhibition in New York in 1998, showing the BODYWRAPPInc.NY collection at StoreFront for Art and Architecture. The BODYWRAPPInc. collection went on show at the design gallery at Kunsthal Rotterdam, The Netherlands, the Kyoto Art Centre, Japan as well as at Spiral Wacoal Art Centre in Tokyo in Japan.
ICON DRESSED fashion/art installation went on show at Röhsska Museet in Göteborg, Sweden, Kunsthal Rotterdam, The Netherlands, MoA in Seoul, Korea, Nordiska Museet in Stockholm, Sweden and at Trapholt Museum in Kolding.
